ENHANCING PUBLIC FINANCIAL GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT IN AFRICA: 11TH-13TH AUGUST 2015 GABORONE, BOTSWANA

Greetings on behalf of the Executive Committee of the African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM).

The African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) and the Centre of Specialisation in Public Administration And Management (CESPAM) have partnered to deliver a three day executive course on Enhancing Public Financial Governance and Management in Africa to be held in Tlotlo Conference Centre, Gaborone, Botswana from the 11th – 13th August 2015. This course seeks to build leadership competencies in establishing a culture of stewardship for managing public funds and examine strategies for financial administration and accountability in Africa. The programme is designed to develop confident leadership and management as the policies and strategies rest on the shoulders of Executives and Managers entrusted with turning them into reality.

The focus groups for the executive course are the high level and middle level public servants in the African public service, executives and middle managers in the public and private sectors, researchers and academics. Some of the topics that we will engage in include; Governance, ethics and accountability; Principles of Financial Accountability, Leading Risk Assessment, Management and Mitigation and Evaluating corporate governance strategies among others. Ken Dapaah Commends Government IMF Bailout

A former chairman of the public Accounts Committee (PAC). Mr. Albert Ken-Dapaah, has stated that the government’s decision to go for a bailout from the international Monetary fund (IMF) was a bold decision.

He said consider the circumstances prevailing in the country, the government was left with no other option than to take that decision. Speaking at a public lecture organized by the institute of Chartered Accountants. Ghana, on the topic. “IMF bailout: what is it”? Mr. Kan-Dapaah said the issue was not about the government going out for a bailout, but about how it managed the public purse entrusted to it.

Media Commission Appoints New Boards for State Media

The National Media Commission (NMC) has appointed new chairpersons and members of governing boards of the state-owned media.

A statement signed by Mr. George Sarpong, the Executive Secretary to the NMC, issued in Accra yesterday said the appointment was in consultation with the president and in accordance and section 2(1) (e) of the National Media Commission Act, 1993 (Act449).

Graphic Communications Group Limited
For the Graphic Communication Group Limited board, it Named Prof. Omane Antwi as the Chairman, with Alhaji Mohammed Nii Kpakpo Addo. Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, Mr. Akwesi Owusu Agyeman and Ms. Edith Dankwa as some of the members.

The rest are Ms. Elaine Sam Kwami, Mr. Emmanuel Anyang Abeka, Mr. Solomon Twum Barimah and Mr. Kenneth Ashigbey, the Managing Director of the company.

The statement said the governing board of the New Times Corporation would be chaired by Ms. Rose Margaret Kpodo, with Mr. Nicholaus Kodzo Akyire, Mrs. Ruby Ivy Austin.
